CalCommuter calculates employee commuting emissions using a transparent, repeatable methodology based on:
Employee reported commute data (home postcode, worksite, mode, working pattern)
Routing engines to calculate realistic commute distances for each mode
The latest Greenhouse Gas Reporting: Conversion Factors from the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
Vehicle specific emissions, where staff provide a registration number
A standardised 46.4 week working year
Straight line upscaling to estimate organisation wide emissions from the survey response rate
This produces clear reporting tables, including:

How the calculations work (summary)
Weekly commute distances are calculated for each respondent using appropriate routing services.
Emissions are calculated using the per mile conversion factors for the relevant travel mode.
Where vehicle registration data is provided, vehicle specific emissions per mile are used (adjusted for real world conditios).
Results are annualised using 46.4 working weeks.
If the organisation’s response rate is below 100%, emissions are upscaled proportionally to estimate the total workforce footprint.
